Many remarkable people joined the Golden Dawn: poet W.B. Yeats (who later received the Nobel Prize), occultist Aleister Crowley, and actress Florence Farr. Golden Dawn member Arthur Edward Waite commissioned American artist Pamela Colman Smith to paint a new tarot deck. Pamela herself was a Golden Dawn initiate.
