In Kabbalistic tradition, God "spoke" creation into being, and each letter is a crystallised fragment of that original creative sound.

The Golden Dawn systematically mapped each of the 22 Hebrew letters to one of the 22 Major Arcana cards. This is not coincidence — the number 22 was chosen deliberately, anchoring the entire tarot system in Kabbalistic cosmology. When you learn these letters, you begin to see the hidden architecture of the cards.

The door is both entrance and exit — a threshold we must cross. Dalet also means "poverty" in Hebrew, suggesting that surrendering what we hold allows new things to enter.

The window through which divine light enters the world. Hey also represents the breath — in Hebrew tradition, the divine name contains two Hey's, suggesting the breath of life breathed into creation twice: once to create, once to sustain.

The nail that joins heaven and earth — the vertical connector. Vav also functions as the conjunction "and" in Hebrew, linking all things in relationship. It is the letter of divine union and the power of love to connect opposites.

Chet is the first letter of "Chai" — life. The fence creates a protected enclosure for sacred life-force to develop within it. In Kabbalah, Chet represents the dynamic tension between opposite forces that generates vitality.

The serpent coiled within — Tet holds hidden goodness, the latent spiritual energy waiting to rise. The shape of the letter is itself a coiled serpent, symbol of kundalini in Eastern traditions and of regenerative power in the West.
